Microfluidic device for blood analysis
Electroforming used to guarantee precise microchannels in microfluidic device.
Customer Requirement:
A prominent manufacturer of medical devices, in conjunction with a leading European Research Institute, developed a blood analyser, which requires the delivery of precise micro amounts of fluid for analysis using photospectroscopy.
Material:
Nickel
Solution:
- Delivery volume and flow rates were guaranteed by using microfluidics. The device required a series of precise microchannels to be formed in Nickel plates, which were then laminated to form dimensionally precise vias.
- PRECISION MICRO engineers produced the components to exceptionally tight tolerances using Electroforming techniques
Advantage
- Unlike conventional machining, many components could be manufactured in a single operation and the complexity is not reflected in the cost.
- The use of photo tooling enabled prototypes to be supplied and amended economically
- Volume requirements could also be met using the same technology that produced initial prototype samples, easing the FDA approval process.
