Major investment set to take Precision Micro to a new level

New Horizons for Precision Micro

Fort Dunlop

PRECISION MICRO the Birmingham based precision component manufacturer has taken the first step along the path to a brand new future by "turning the first sod" in construction of a new, purpose built manufacturing facility near Fort Dunlop, close to the M6. The brown field site has been acquired with the assistance of Advantage West Midlands and is a prime location in terms of accessibility for customers, suppliers and PRECISION MICRO personnel alike. Some 4 miles from the current factory, this new-build project will provide PRECISION MICRO with the opportunity to upgrade its manufacturing processes and efficiencies to the ultimate benefit of its customers.

"This new, multi-million pound investment will give our business added impetus," said Anthony Marrett, Managing Director of PRECISION MICRO. "The entire workforce has been instrumental in setting the parameters for the process improvement we are seeking for new facility. Factory teams have been in place for some months and have highlighted many areas of potential improvement that can only be realised in a new design-build project such as this."

Believed to be the only purpose built etching plant in Europe, the new 40,000+ ft2 factory facility has been meticulously planned with efficiency and environmental impact considerations as fundamental priorities.

In order to achieve a seamless transition, over a million pounds of investment in new plant and equipment will enable the new site to be producing before manufacturing at the existing facility ceases.

"The entire project is focussed on providing a better, more efficient, more cost effective service to our customers," continued Marrett. "We will do this by deconstructing then redesigning our processes to optimise efficiencies and capabilities.

A team has been put in place to implement the project and ensure that budgets are controlled, deadlines are achieved and objectives met. In addition to PRECISION MICRO members, this project team includes Thomas Vale Construction, winner of the ‘2003 Contractor of the Year’ award and Cyril Sweett, a world leading Project Management Organisation.
