Components manufacturer showcases talents as part of Best Practice visit programme

Business Director Marcus Heather with Michelle Connors

Birmingham manufacturing company Precision Micro has been sharing the secrets of its success as part of a series of visits hosted by Inside Manufacturing Enterprise (IME).

The Inside Manufacturing Enterprise programme offers employers and schools access to some of the best manufacturing and engineering companies, providing practical advice on a variety of topics including supply chain management, continuous improvement for a competitive advantage, and meeting regional and global challenges.

During the visit, Precision Micro showcased their purpose built manufacturing plant to businesses from around the region to share their knowledge and experience.

Michelle Connors, IME Project Officer, said: “We know that manufacturers are continually being forced to maximise every resource to remain competitive, particularly in the current environment.

“Learning from others and transferring knowledge is one of the best ways to ensure manufacturers remain sustainable and the programme is of real benefit to the people who attend them and also the hosts".

The programme offers companies the opportunity to meet and discuss current manufacturing challenges in a real world situation. IME facilitate this event by sourcing successful companies who are willing to open their doors and work together for the success of the industry.

“Ideas and inspiration gained through these visits can be used to successfully implement new practices and promote more effective processes in manufacturing companies throughout the West Midlands.”

The company’s successful strategies – which have seen them flourish despite the economic downturn – were explained by Business Director Marcus Heather.

"Like all manufacturing concerns, we are operating in a challenging global marketplace. However, we are continuing to go from strength to strength, with two of our highest output months already this year.

“The only way we have been able to overcome the economic challenges facing the global marketplace in which we operate is by sharpening and improving our systems and we are proud of our success to date.

“Of course, we know that we face even tougher challenges going forward but we have strategies in place and are delighted to be able to share our experiences with others.

“I think it is important, as part of the wider manufacturing community here in the West Midlands that we take the opportunity to show others how we do things and how we are adapting.

“I would recommend the Inside Manufacturing Enterprise programme to any manufacturing and engineering company that can share knowledge and experience as it is incredibly rewarding.”
