Stainless Steel Etching and Steel Etching
Having amassed over 50 years’ experience etching steel and stainless steels, Precision Micro offers a wide range of austenitic (300 series) and martensitic (400 series) steel grades from stock.
We also offer a wide range of specialist steel grades, such as Sandvik 7C27Mo2, and process customer specific or free issue material upon request.
Gauges from 20µm to 1.6mm are available in sheet sizes up to 1500mm x 700mm.
The etching process and applications
As with all metals, the etching process does not alter the properties of the selected steel grade, making it the preferred method of sheet metal machining when part integrity is critical.
Low set-up costs and rapid lead times make photo etching economical in batch sizes of one off to multiple millions.
Precision Micro produce over 50 million components per annum for leading companies across multiple markets and process approximately 100 tonnes of raw material, a large percentage of which is stainless steel.
Typical components etched from steel and stainless steels include:
- Springs and flexures
- Meshes and filters
- Fuel cell, heat exchange and other fluidic plates
- Medical devices
- Shims and gaskets
- Decorative applications, such as automotive interior trim
